Top Angry Break Up Songs

Warning

This list is not for the faint of heart. This list consists of titles for angry women who are fed up or just need some empowerment to get them through. Enjoy the list. Comment with additions! I didn't include a lot of cheating songs as those are a dime a dozen. These are just plain angry.

The Top of the Top

1. My Give a Damn's Busted - Jo Dee Messina

This one is to be played cranked up and with some angst. Listen to it 15 times in a row and you're sure to beat any feelings of regret. Best Line: All of them.

2. Sympathetic Character - Alanis Morissette

If there isn't something covered in this song, I don't know what it would be. It is full of every kind of anger you could get. And the theme is the greatest part. Best line: "I've lived as much hell as you have, but I've kept mine bubbling under for you." And all of the rest of them.

Violent

1. Gunpowder and Lead - Miranda Lambert

Technically, this song alludes to domestic violence, but I prefer to think of it as a fantasy for all wrong-doing. Saddle up and get angry! Best line: "I'll show you what a little girl can do."

2. Violet - Hole (Courtney Love)

It's Courtney Love. Enough said. Best line: "Go on take everything. I dare you to."

3. Kiss off - Violent Femmes

A kind of paranoid rant that may not really be intended as a break up song, but the count down sells it as a great violently-losing-your-mind break up song. On the verge of psychotic because of your break- up? Play it, baby.

Name Calling

1. Jerk - Kim Stockwood

Best line: "Why don't jerks know they're jerks?"

2. Dickhead - Kate Nash

Best line: "Why you being a dickhead for?"

3. Fuck it - Eamon

Too many to list.

These need no explanation.

The Classics

1. Respect - Aretha Franklin

Ok. So it's not a break up song, but it is a classic female empowerment tune!

2. I will survive - Gloria Gainer

I recommend the Cake version just as highly as the original. Take them both for a test drive.

3. These Boots Are Made For Walking - Nancy Sinatra

And that's just what they'll do.

(If you don't know the best lines of these songs by heart, you better get to listening!)

I Will Survive

Get Away from Me

1. Changed the locks - Lucinda Williams (or Kasey Chambers)

When you're doing everything you can to hide from temptation or just from the reminder of him. Lucinda does a more screeching version and Kasey does a more country, clean version. They are otherwise identical. Best line: "And you can't hear me laugh."

2. I Can Do Better - Avril Lavigne

I can't stand you. I can do better. Get away, you ain't good enough for me. Tell it, sister. Best line: "I'm so sick of you. Get on my nerves. Want to puke."

3. Just Like A Pill - Pink

You make me sick. You're addictive. You're a drug and I want it to stop! Best line: "Instead of making me better, you keep making me ill."

Down to a Simmer

1. Insensitive - Jann Arden

A nice, yet scathing conversation about a man who just doesn't care about the women who fall for him. Best line: "I'm one of the chosen few who went ahead and fell for you."

2. Oh Well - Fiona Apple

"What a waste of unconditional love on someone who doesn't believe in the stuff."

3. Let him Fly - Dixie Chicks

"There ain't no talking to this man" and it's time to realize that you just have to let him go.

4. He Ain't Jesus - Carrie Rodriguez

"It was a crack in the wall until the house fell down. I wish he'd stop talking now."

How about "Bust the Windows Out Your Car" by Jazmine Sullivan. She really talking revenge here. Also "Not Gone Cry" by Mary J. Blige from the Waiting to Exhale soundtrack.
